Museum is hosting one of the largest exhibitions of the Swiss artist Jean
Tinguely. Tinguely has played a key role
in the rise of kinetic art. His work is playful, boldly kinetic machines and
explosive performances.
He updated the Dada technique by using scrap metal material and mechanizing them. Tinguely's work intended to mock the " improvements" of the industrial revolution and modern reliance on technology.

The
exhibition “Machine Spectacle” offers to the public a great insight of Tinguely’s
work. A number of machine sculptures, archive material, films, photos and
drawings will impress you. Machine sculptures that are in working order will
give you the chance to enjoy the details of Tinguely's art.

The artistic development and ideas, from his love of absurd play to his fascination for
destruction and ephemerality are present through the entire exhibition.
Tinguely
reveals a different aspect of art, a non conventionalone and this is the reason his
work is an emphasis on playfulness and experimentation.

triggered by the audiovisual tour in (NL/ENG/DU/FR) which is included in the ticket
price.

The exhibition will be hosted at Stedelijk until 5th of March 2017. A Family Lab offers the
chance to get a picture of Tinguely's headquarters and get the machines moving.
This exhibition is organised by the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in collaboration with
Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf.
